Bromeliads
A fantastic family of plants that are generally easy to look after, and have wonderful long lasting bracts (these are the showy colouful parts often mistaken for flowers) above shiny green foliage. They are on the whole epiphytic (live in trees) and the roots act mainly as an anchor and best kept on the dry side- watering is done directly into central leaves of surrounding the stem (known as the 'vase').
These are ptobably the perfect houseplant-long lasting colour, easy to look after, and lend themsleves to a creative and dramatic display. We like to mount them on logs and branches.
